One ordinary day, while walking through Medellín, I came across an image of the Virgin. It wasn’t by chance. I felt that silent calling that can only be heard with the heart. When I returned to Bogotá, where I was living at the time, I picked up my brushes and acrylics and let her image guide me. I painted Our Lady of Guadalupe—the little brown-skinned Virgin, patroness of the Americas—for the first time. It was an abstract interpretation, free, deeply personal.

Years later, in 2011, life brought me to Santa Bárbara, California. There, far from home, I felt close to Mexico again, to my childhood roots. The Virgin of Guadalupe kept appearing to me—in paintings, sculptures, small shrines—as constant signs of her loving presence.

When December 12th arrived—the 12/12/12 portal—I began a new series of acrylic paintings on canvas. I explored textures, shimmer, and diverse color palettes. It was a profound process, a dance between devotion and creativity. That’s how the series “Our Lady of Guadalupe” was born. I’ve sold several pieces from it, and each one now brings light and joy to a collector’s home or a space touched by the presence of original, handmade art.

In 2025, a year of rebirth, of grief and awakening, I have felt the protection of my Virgin more than ever. Especially one of them, painted in turquoise blue, yellow, and green—a piece I named “Aparición” (Apparition). She walks with me, holds me, speaks to me in silence.

Pintando a “La Morenita”: Una serie desde el corazón

Un día cualquiera, caminando por Medellín, me encontré con la virgen de Guadalupe en una estampa. No fue casualidad. Sentí ese llamado silencioso que solo se escucha con el corazón . Al regresar a Bogotá, donde vivía en ese entonces, tomé mis pinceles y mis acrílicos y me dejé guiar por su imagen. Pinté por primera vez a “La morenita”, “La patroncita de América”. Fue una interpretación abstracta, libre, desde lo más íntimo de mi alma.

Años más tarde, en 2011, la vida me llevó a Santa Bárbara, California donde me casé. Allí, lejos de casa, me sentí nuevamente cerca de México, de mis raíces de juventud en la hermosa San Miguel de Allende donde cumplí mis 17 años. Ya en California La Virgen de Guadalupe se me volvió a presentar: en imágenes, esculturas, pequeños altares, como señales constantes de su presencia amorosa.

Cuando llegó el 12 de diciembre de 2012 —el portal 12/12/12— comencé una serie de pinturas acrílicas sobre lienzo. Me dejé llevar por texturas, brillos y paletas de colores diferentes. Fue un proceso profundo, una danza con devoción y creatividad. Así nació la serie “Our Lady of Guadalupe”, de la cual he vendido varias piezas que ahora iluminan rincones especiales en casas de coleccionistas y admiradores del arte original, hecho a mano, desde el alma.

En este 2025, año de renacer, de duelos y despertares, he sentido más que nunca la protección de mi Virgen. En especial una de ellas, pintada con tonos de azul turquesa, amarillos y verdes, a la que llamé “Aparición”. Ella me acompaña, me sostiene, me habla en silencio.

“Padre de Misericordia, que has puesto a este pueblo tuyo bajo la especial protección de la siempre Virgen María de Guadalupe, Madre de tu Hijo, concédenos, por su intercesión, profundizar en nuestra fe y buscar el progreso de nuestra patria por caminos de justicia y de paz.
Por nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Amén.”
